Download the MCP67 Ethernet driver for Acer laptops.

This is a very simple post – I want to make it easy … and free to get the MCP67 Network card drivers.

Why?

I was helping out a friend and removing the horror that is Windows Vista and replacing it with XP on an Acer Aspire.

After an hour of searching for the ACER MCP67 Ethernet Driver and being confronted with “pay $44.99 for this driver”, “sign up and pay only $19.99″ and more, I worked out it was part of the NVidia 14.10_nforce_630a_winxp_english_whql.exe file. If you un-rar/un-zip the .exe file, you get a folder called Ethernet and it holds all the drivers you need (you can bin the rest of it).

However, there’s no need to go to the trouble as you can download it here – MCP67 Ethernet driver.

I do my best to SEO this post with MCP67 Ethernet Driver in the hope I can save you some time.

Download MCP67 Ethernet Driver

I’ll host this, for free as long as I am able to, if this post (and the download of the MCP67 Ethernet Driver for the Acer Aspire) was useful – link to this post and help some other folks out too.

Thanks.

Notes:

Once you click to order you may be asked to enter your phone number to confirm that the service is available to your line.

It’s quite common to see “not available now” when checking the Dunsborough exchange – this is my result, even though I’m currently getting download speeds of 12 – 16 mbps.

Exetel will do a proper check on the line to ensure the service is available before signing you up.

I have used Exetel for the past 3 years, they have consistently offered higher download allowances at better prices than the major ADSL providers and a reliable ADSL service.

Learn some simple and effective ways to improve your Search Engine Rankings.

I’ve been having a little break from Web Design today, the websites I’ve been working on are with the clients awaiting approval and I was off browsing the web for some inspiration and motivation.
I found a little Gem to help you get better results in Google.

How Google sees your website

Google and other Search Engines don’t view your site in the same way as a person. They are effectively blind and can’t evaluate things in the same way we do.

Search Engines send out ‘spiders’ to gather all the addresses of every web page on the internet and store them in Datacenters spread across the world. Google will then analyse the information in those pages and assign it a score based on it’s content. Now, that’s a very simplistic view, there’s a lot more to it, but it will do for the purpose of this exercise.

One of the ways Google evaluates your site is to calculate Keyword Density, simply put this is how many times a particular word or phrase appears on your page. It give areas like Headings, emphasised text (bold) more value than standard text and the position of the words on your pages is weighted aswell.

Viewing your page like a Googlebot (spider)

Firstly, open this link in a new Tab or window – Keyword Density Checker and grab a pen and piece of paper.

Type your website address into the KDC and have a look at the results – for this exercise, we’ll write down the top 5.

ALL credit for this method goes to Christine OKelly, who runs an SEO copywriting firm at SelfMadeChick.com. You can view the original post, and more of her articles here.

Results for webecho.com.au:

Website – 8.7%

Design – 6.5%

Marketing – 3.6%

Web – 3.6%

Business – 3.6%

So as far as Google is concerned, my homepage is about Website, Design, Marketing, Web and Business. That’s great as it’s exactly what I do – Website Design and Marketing for Small Business.

OK, I knew what would come up as I’ve spent a lot of time getting the page right.

Back to you – are you surprised to see what Google thinks your site is about?

Are you Keywords and phrases missing from the list? Don’t panic, to follow is an example and a couple of simple fixes that you (or your web designer) can fix in a few minutes.

I’ve provided an example from page 10 of Google Search results:

bay – 8.4%

eagle – 5.34%

*removed for privacy* – 3.05%

luxury – 3.05%

western – 3.05%

australia – 3.05%

If I owned this business, I would want to be ranked highly for these Keywords and phrases “Eagle Bay Holiday Homes”, “Eagle Bay Holiday Houses” or “Eagle Bay Accommodation” – those are the 3 most searched terms to find what this website offers. They’ve missed their opportunity.

Some very simple changes to their webpage could see them leap up in the results.

Fix your Page Titles

Change the title of their webpage to read “Eagle Bay Holiday Home : Name of Business” or “Eagle Bay Holiday Home – Luxury Eagle Bay Accommodation: Name of Business”.

Both of these page titles would help, the second even more so as it covers two of the most searched for phrases and at the same time entices a searcher by promising luxury accommodation.

Fix your description

The description is typically the bit of text presented underneath the Page Title (and link) in Google Search Results.

Writing a short (about 160 characters), truthful and enticing description to get searchers to click on your link.”

“Our Luxurious Holiday Accommodation overlooks the sparkling waters of Eagle Bay”.

Although I haven’t included any exact phrase, the description will read nicely for a Human visitor while also letting Google see Luxurious Holiday Accommodation Eagle Bay grouped together.

It’s very important to realise that while the description does make a difference to how Google views your site, you should write them for people. Stuffing your description with Keywords ‘may’ help your rankings, it doesn’t entice people to click on your link – that should be your goal.

What you can do now

1. Type the URL’s of each of the main pages for your website into the Keyword Density Checker and make a note of the top 5 keywords for each.

2. Write down the current Page Title and Description for each page (See notes below on how to find both).

3. Re-write the Page Title and Description using the examples I gave above as guides.

4. Ask your Web Designer to put your new Titles and Descriptions on the relevant pages for you.

Find your Page Title and Description

Your Page title should be displayed across the top of your Web Browser

To find your description – right click your mouse over your webpage and choose “View Source”

then look for the following META tag – meta name=”description” content=”This is your Description”

The words between the content “quotes” are your current description.

Better Google Results

Hopefully, you’ll soon be enjoying higher rankings in Google. This bit of easy research and a little bit of creativity on your part could make a big difference to your business.

Following the instructions in this post won’t make you an instant success with Google and there’s a lot more to the effective use of Keywords than just density, but this simple technique will help you eliminate some lost opportunities.

Google Maps

Free and quick to set up, put your Business on Google Maps.

Sign in with your Gmail account or set up a new account.

Fill in your contact details, add your website address and email then write a brief description (see Getting Descriptive for tips)

Add yourself to your relevant category (you can add more than one if required).

Choose your service area and, if applicable, your operating hours.

Select your payment options and then upload at least one Photo.

Add any additional details (see Getting Descriptive for tips)

Submit your listing

You will now be given the option of where you would like you confirmation PIN number sent – choose SMS to your mobile and you’ll receive the PIN within a few minutes.
You’ll have been re-directed back to your business listings page, enter your PIN and your listing will start to go live (your listing usually takes 48 hours to show up on Google Maps).

Getting Descriptive

You have 200 characters to describe your Business – Make sure you are including your Keywords in that description (“Our Beachfront Accommodation”, “Dunsborough’s best Mongolian Restaurant”, “…enjoy our Margaret River Wines”).

This description will be your first impression on your visitor – write something that will entice them to visit your website, try and do it without off putting Sales speak.

The additional details section provides another option to use your Keywords.
In my listing I have put my main Keywords -

Web Design : Yes

Website Marketing : Yes

Website Hosting : Yes

I’ve also included a little more in a few descriptions

Website Design : Hand coded, Accessible Websites to xHTML & CSS web standards

Search Engine Optimisation : Link Building, Copy optimisation, Website promotion & marketing

These additional details, as well as helping out my visitors so they know what services I offer will also associate those Keywords with my Business.

I’ve (almost) completed the new site re-design.

I decided to move my site over to the WordPress platform which will simplify posting articles and give me a more flexible website.

Not a lot to see

Right now there isn’t, I started converting my old articles and thought it was a great time to update them to take into account new developments in Web Design, SEO and Online Marketing.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll start with the basics to support the ideas about Web Standards, Web Design and Marketing that I present on this site, before moving on to some more in depth and helpful posts.

Rough edges

Whilst the majority of the site is done, some of the features (commenting and article feeds in particular) haven’t been finished. I have client work that needs to be done, so I’ll be smoothing things out as I get time to.

Hopefully, these things won’t upset your experience here or cause you any problems, if they do – please let me know and I’ll try and address those issues as a priority.
